NEWBORN OVERVIEW

We provide all the props, wraps, headbands, and tiny outfits. There is no need to worry about your baby’s wardrobe! During your shoot, we will be working to keep your darling baby asleep so we can get as many beautiful images as possible – like those you see on our website! If we do keep your baby asleep for the entire session, we will try to wake him/her up at the end of the session to get a few eyes-open shots. 

Newborn photography is more of an art than a science. The more creative license you can give me, the more I can use my experience, creativity, and innovation to come up with the most beautiful images of your baby. 

I will text you the day before your session, asking for your input regarding several specific questions. That way, I can have everything laid out and ready to go when you arrive.  We move quickly through all the different looks, especially when your baby is sleepy! 

If you don’t want more than 15 images, I will take roughly 60 to 80 pictures that you will make your selections from at the end of your session. Your pictures will be from 8 to 10 completely different looks, with variations on each look, plus your family photos. This will give you A LOT to choose from!

If you tell me you would like to purchase more than 15 images, I will do even more completely different looks of your baby. All of this does depend on how well your baby cooperates, to some extent. The optimum age for getting lots of different looks it usually between 7 and 21 days old, but it always varies. We are very good at making things happen, and there are always LOTS of amazing photos to choose from!

We do things in a specific order that allows us to keep your baby asleep and cooperating in the process. To a certain extent, we are flexible and follow the lead of your baby. We will finish in 1 1/2 to 3 hours at the most, including your family photos and your selections!

It is a rewarding and exciting process! Everyone enjoys looking at the final product at the end of their session!

PREPARE

Our newborn photo shoots are done in our private, home studio in North Scottsdale, and typically take between 1.5 and 3 hours. The time depends on how sleepy your baby is and if you are getting any family/sibling photos. We take time for feeding, changing, and selecting your favorite photos. The following list is to help you prepare for your baby’s first photo shoot, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the experience.

• PARENTS: If you would like to include parent and/or family photos, please consider wearing black or a dark solid color. Some very classy-looking parent/family photos look great when you are wearing black, or at least dark, solid colors, if not black. 
• BABY: When you bring your baby to your shoot, dress him/herin loose clothing that is easily removed so that we don’t overstimulate your baby at the beginning of the photoshoot. 
• Bringa pacifier PLEASE, even if you don’t use one normally, it can be very helpful in the photo shoot and often helps us get through several shots (and possibly even finish) before we have to stop for feeding. Your baby may not take one from you,  but in a different setting, when you are out of the equation and your baby can’t see/hear/smell, or feel you, your baby often will take a pacifier from us.
• Bring an extra bottle, if you are bottle feeding, and you may want to bring some pumped milk if you are breastfeeding. You are also welcome to nurse your baby as needed during your shoot, but a bottle (formula or breast milk) allows us to give the bottle as needed and to keep the session moving along more efficiently which ultimately gives you MORE images to choose from!
• If you are breastfeeding, you may want tobring a pump for your own comfort. 
• FYI- We provide snacks in case you get hungry during the shoot, and bottled water!

BOOKING & COST

Currently, our discounted Newborn Session Fee is $99 to book your shoot (regularly $150). When you pay this Session Fee, you will be on our calendar! It is ideal to book your session while you are still expecting so that you can be sure to get a session on a day and time that works best for you. We do our newborn sessions on weekdays at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Baby-Only Photos – The minimum purchase for baby-only photos is 10 digital images at $30 each, which totals $300 plus your $99 Session Fee. The grand total for 10 baby-only photos is $399 (plus tax).

Baby Plus Family Photos – When you include family photos, the minimum purchase is 15 digital images at $30 each, which comes to $450. The grand total for 15 photos (including family photos), comes to $549 (plus tax).

When you go into labor (or you know you will be in the next week or so), text us at (480) 938-8606 so that we can verify your session. For newborn photography, the closer to birth your baby is, the more pliable he/she will be.  A shoot within the first 4 weeks of birth is ideal, but we do get super cute photos with the “newborn look” up to 12 weeks old if your baby is under 15 pounds. The younger your baby is, the more likely it is that we will be able to get more of those cute, “newborn-looking” poses. For some newborn poses, 7 to 21 days old (5 to 9 pounds) is ideal, but don’t worry if you missed this age! Be aware that the poses we do will depend on how cooperative your baby is, but we always get plenty of amazing photos to choose from!

YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT

We do ALL of our newborn sessions in our private, home photography studio that is located in Grayhawk at:

Please look for our Welcome Sign with your name on it near the front door – you will know you have arrived! 

Please feed your baby prior to heading to our studio for your newborn photo shoot. Then, the drive to our studio will likely put your baby to sleep. Please carry your baby into our studio asleep in his/her car seat, dressed in something that doesn’t need to be pulled over their head. If your baby isn’t asleep upon your arrival at our studio, please come on in and let me give the last bottle and/or diaper change. We do it in a way that keeps your baby relaxed and sleepy. This helps us get right to work!

A new mom’s natural instinct is to want to be right by her new baby.  If you can resist that urge, relax and let us do our thing, we can get more pictures and more variety for you to choose from. If you come over to help, your baby will see, hear, and smell you and will want to be held and fed. During your infant photo shoot, the less sensory input you give your baby, the better photos, as well as MORE photos, we will get! 

We have a comfortable couch for you to relax on that is only ten feet from where we take the photos, so you get a front-row seat! Please refrain from taking your own photos, unless you are taking a few “behind the scenes” type photos, showing the entire process. In that case, just be sure to get my GOOD side!

AFTER YOUR SHOOT

Immediately after your shoot, we will sit down and you will select your favorite images. Any purchases you would like to make will be done at this time. I have developed a system over the years that helps you with your selections and makes this process rather quick and painless! You will make your selections and payment is due, on the day of your session.

I will have your professionally retouched, full-size digital images back to you via Dropbox digital download 7 days after your session, usually LATE at night when I get back to my computer – for the night shift!

COVID-19

Note Regarding COVID-19:

We do ALL of our shoots in our private, home photography studio! We do two shoots a day with no client overlap, we wear masks to slow the spread of bacteria since we are SO close while we are posing your baby, we apply hand sanitizer liberally, keep the studio sanitized and extra clean – we clean with STEAM which kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria without harsh chemicals! And, we don’t wear shoes in our studio. We live a naturally low-risk lifestyle we don’t get out much!
